Tokio Hotel nominated for “Sprachwahrer” of the Year Award.The German band, Tokio Hotel, is among those who the newspaper Deutsche Sprachwelt has named as a “person, business or group” who has done something to promote the German language, according to Welt.de.

The actual title of the award is called “Sprachwahrer des Jahres”. The word “Sprachwahrer” is difficult to translate directly into English, but the gist of it is “faithful to the language”. Tokio Hotel along with Germany's Defense Minister, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, and Xavier Naidoo have been nominated for the award.
Tokio Hotel, the German band from Magdeburg was named on the list because so many young people have opted to take German as a Foreign Language because of the band’s influence. Although the band sings in both German and English, many fans have taken up German lessons so that they can understand the lyrics of the band’s songs.
Another who has been selected as someone who promotes the German language is Defense Minister, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg. According to the article,
He speaks not only good German, but also flawless English and reads Plato in the original ancient Greek.
Another one from the German music scene, Xavier Naidoo has also been nominated. Naidoo sings in German and has said in an interview that he chooses to sing in German, because to reach the German soul to the greatest extent, it’s better that he sing in the language.
